PhD Fellowship in Sustainable Fisheries & Climate Resilience

Project: Assessing GHG Emissions and Carbon Sequestration in Bangladesh’s Haor Ecosystem, and Implementing Climate-Resilient Farming (Funded by: BCCTF)

Position Summary: Applications are invited for one (01) full-time Doctoral Research Fellow to work on the fisheries component of an integrated climate change project. The research will focus on developing climate-resilient, low-carbon fisheries and aquaculture practices in the vulnerable Haor ecosystem of Bangladesh.

Research Focus: The PhD candidate will investigate the followings -

  • Measurement of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from fisheries and aquaculture systems.
  • Development of sustainable aquaculture practices for the Haor region of Bangladesh.
  • Promotion of responsible fishing gear and techniques.
  • The role of habitat conservation in carbon sequestration and fisheries productivity.

Fellowship Details:

  • Duration: 36 Months
  • Stipend: BDT 30,000/month
  • Support: Coverage of field and laboratory research costs
  • Eligibility Criteria: Master of Science (MS) in any of the Fisheries Science disciplines.

Minimum CGPA: 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent.

Experience: at least 1 year of teaching/research experience in fisheries + one peer-reviewed publication.

Willingness to conduct extensive fieldwork in Netrokona and Kishoreganj Haor areas.
